How the calculation works
- Fees are calculated on the total the buyer pays (item price + shipping), as Etsy, eBay and Amazon do.
- If you are VAT-registered, the VAT share of the sale is removed from your revenue before profit is calculated (Kleinunternehmer / not registered: enter 0).
- Profit = revenue after VAT − marketplace fees − product cost − your shipping cost − other costs − ads.
- Break-even and target prices are found by testing prices until the margin matches, so tiered fixed fees are handled correctly.
FAQ
How much does Etsy take per sale?
In the US: a 6.5 % transaction fee on price plus shipping, payment processing of 3 % + $0.25 and a $0.20 listing fee. Offsite Ads (12–15 %) come on top if a sale comes from one.
Is selling on eBay.de free for private sellers?
For private sellers in Germany selling within Germany, eBay charges no sales commission; optional extras and international sales can still cost money.
What is a good margin for a marketplace seller?
It depends on the product, but many sellers aim for 20–30 % or more after all fees and costs, so there is room for ads, returns and price changes.
