Frequently asked questions

How is Tagesgeld interest taxed?

As capital income: 25 % withholding tax plus solidarity surcharge (and church tax if applicable) on interest above the saver's allowance of €1,000 (married: €2,000). Banks deduct it automatically unless you file an exemption order (Freistellungsauftrag).

What is a Freistellungsauftrag?

An order to your bank to pay interest tax-free up to your saver's allowance. You can split the €1,000/€2,000 across several banks.

Tagesgeld or Festgeld?

Tagesgeld is available daily but the rate can change; Festgeld fixes the rate for a set term but your money is tied up. Use the calculator for both – for Festgeld choose yearly crediting.
