How to use it
- Paste the VAT ID including the country prefix (e.g. DE123456789).
- The checker validates the format; for Germany also the check digit.
- Confirm that the number is active in the official VIES database before invoicing without VAT (reverse charge).

Frequently asked questions
What does this check do?
It compares the number with the official structure for each country and, for Germany, recalculates the check digit (ISO 7064 MOD 11,10). It cannot tell whether a number is actually issued and active – only VIES can.
When do I need a valid VAT ID?
For intra-EU B2B supplies with reverse charge you must verify your customer's VAT ID; keep a record of the VIES confirmation.
Why does Greece start with EL?
Greek VAT numbers use the prefix EL, not the ISO code GR.
